Focus on Performance

Learn to perform and Play for Others If your goal is to play for others in any kind of setting — performances, informal settings such as cafés, classes such as yoga and meditation, elder care or medical facilities, etc. — Flute Haven has a thread of activities that can assist you in this goal.

Here are the activities throughout the week that you might consider:

  • Playing at Mealtimes. This is an opportunity to gain experience in a non-threatening environment.
  • Looping. An integral element of many live performances is live looping. Two of the recording studios have loopers integrated into the system, and several workshops (Thursday and Saturday) are dedicated specifically to looping.
  • The Performance Techniques workshop and following "Woodshed" practice session offered on Saturday afternoon (see the Weekend Schedule).
  • An opportunity to play at the Meditation and Music Concert on Thursday. This mid-day concert is centered around harmonic instruments such as Tibetan bowls, Koto and Tamboura string instruments, and harmonic percussion. Several flute players will join with flutes, including a prior rehearsal / sound check during lunchtime (see the Mid-week Schedule).
  • Friday Night Open Mic Jam Evening (see the Weekend Schedule).
  • Chaplin's Dinner and Open Mic Jam Fest (see the Weekend Schedule). Note that this event will be recorded (audio and video) ... details to be worked out.
